THoHH, Ep. 6: “Two Storms”

“I was right here the whole time. None of you could see me.”

Spook Factor: 👻👻 out of 👻👻👻👻👻

Set in the essential horror story weather - a rumbling thunderstorm - this episode begins with a realistic, stressful, and tense form of family reunion: a funeral. Pay attention to how the camera panning changes the mood of the scene and how small substitutions make a big impact. This episode focuses more on the family trying to process the trauma, guilt, and blame often involved in losing a loved one, so it’s not as spooky as other episodes and has fewer jump scares, but there are plenty of creepy details if you look closely.

CWs: mentions of suicide, discussion of mental illness, disembodied voices, disturbing imagery (apparitions), hallucinations, paranormal phenomena

OWs: embalmed human body, alcohol, drug addiction, separation (marriage), strong language, implied infidelity

Jump Scares (in chronological order):

  1. Hugh Crain walks to the bathroom.

  2. Olivia explains how hail is made.

  3. Nellie stumbles into the room full of statues.

  4. The adults ask about the buttons.

  5. “I’m having the strangest dream.”

  6. Steve starts yelling at Hugh.

What to Expect:

Fresh from the nightmare of Nelly’s death, we’re thrust back into the current family’s dynamics: awkward hugs, near-tangible tension that turns to full-on arguments, and drinking. The patriarch of the Crain clan receives special attention (finally!) as we see more of the story from his perspective, including memories of Nell.
