THoHH, Ep. 9: “Screaming Meemies”

“No more screaming meemies. You’d wake them up, and you’d keep ‘em just perfect.”

Spook Factor: 👻👻 out of 👻👻👻👻👻

Ghosts come to life in this episode, which is wholly Olivia’s. With the House and its permanent inhabitants egging her on, she begins to fray at the edges until she becomes completely unraveled. Intense sequences give us more clues about what ultimately happened on the family’s last night in Hill House. The kids’ nightmarish descriptions of adulthood are especially haunting.

CWs: hallucinations, paranormal phenomena, corpse, overdose, discussion of drug use, disturbing imagery, death by poisoning, dead bodies (adult and child)

OWs: discussion of parental death, strong language, discussion of infanticide

Jump Scares (in chronological order):

  1. Olivia walks toward Nell on the table. (intense sequence)

  2. Olivia wakes in bed. (another shortly after)

  3. “It’s perfect, I love it!”

What to Expect:

Olivia takes center stage in the penultimate episode of the series, and we jump back and forth between the Crain family journeying back to the House and Olivia’s final days there. Her final hours are heartbreaking as we see her slow then sudden decline as she finally “wakes up.”
