THoHH, Episode 3: “Touch”

“We make ourselves safe, and we never let anyone in.”

Spook Factor: 👻👻👻 out of 👻👻👻👻👻

The spookiness continues to ramp up with jump scares widely spaced apart, showing that this series is all about slow buildup to excellent scares. Be on the lookout for the integration of paranormal and real-life horrors, such as creepy basement dwellers and child abuse. This episode gets 3 out of 5 ghosts thanks to some excellently scary character design.

CWs: psychic ability, child psychology and therapy, body horror, hallucinations, accidental coming out, implied molestation, blood, frightening imagery

OWs: strong language, audio of sexual encounter, discussion of paranormal sensitivity

Jump Scares (in chronological order):

  1. The doorknob rattling after a dance.

  2. “There’s something down here.”

  3. The blanket is pulled off.

  4. Hugh grabs young Theo.

What to Expect:

This episode focuses on my favorite of the 5 Crain children: Theo. In “Touch,” we clearly see how Theo’s specific experiences at the Hill House shaped her adult life - her relationships, career choice, and more. We also get a brief glance at the fateful night at Hill House that changed the Crain family forever.
